„PRZESTRZEŃ MIASTA” (“City Space”) Project Description
Project objective
The main objective of the “City Space” project is development of civic attitude among the young generations of Poles and preventing exclusion of minorities form the civil society. We want to propagate the knowledge about civic rights but above all the right to protect the dignity of each man. Meanwhile in our surroundings there are many elements which violate these laws and therefore we feel compelled to counteract this phenomenon and to force the public institutions to fulfil their obligation to protect these rights.
Project execution
Using widely available tools: Internet and a digital camera (even the simplest one - such as the mobile phone cameras) we would like to create an opportunity to document these elements in our surrounding that in their nature threaten the dignity of people in terms of their ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation. Anyone can join our campaign. It is enough to take a photo, go to the main page, point to the graffiti’s or poster’s location on the map and enter the photo in the project database. The entries will be moderated so that only the photos which fulfil to the project’s ruls appear in the database. Next, the entries will be periodically handed over to the national or municipal police who will compel the building administrators to remove such graffiti or posters.
What the project is NOT
- it is not a single campaign involving painting over anti-Semitic and racist graffiti by volunteers; the objective is a long-lasting effect and raising citizens’ awareness of their
rights which should be protected by public institutions;
- it is not aimed at removing each and every graffiti which disfigure the city space but only those which are offensive towards specific minorities.
